Even though trainers have been the objects of our affections for some time now, there are many an occasion (in England at least,) in which they’re just not practical; our rainy days are no secret and most definitely not conducive to keeping…
Nars has just launched their Matte Velvet Shadow Sticks for January 2015! I love Nars for their high-pigment and colour-intense products. The Shadow Sticks are being launched as a part of the Nars Eye Opening Act Collection for Spring 2015.
I have the Shadow Stick in Glenan which is a lovely deep dark navy blue. I used this as a liner initially but then blended it up and turned it into a shadow. You can use it either way as it is a blendable shadow or if you like a thick eyeliner, this is your man. And like a good man, this one stays right where he belongs and doesn’t stray.
Happy New Year! It’s a new year so that means a new you right? Everyone is busy making resolutions and trying to start 2015 on the right foot. I’ve been scouting around and have picked a few products that I have tested out this month that I think will start me out right this year.
Bath and Body Works Antibacterial Gel
Bath and Body Works is a US bath/body/home brand that has the best antibacterial gels under the sun. I had some sent to me recently from the States and I must say that I am loving these pocket-sized protectors. In particular, the Honolulu Sun smells like a day at the beach – much nicer than your typical alcohol-smelling antibac gel. If you have anyone in the States that can pick these up for you, they are a great little handbag hero in the winter months.
Pixi Glow Tonic
I have a lot of love for Pixi lately. Especially the Glow Tonic – this is a 5% glycolic toner that should be used after cleansing and before your serum. The glycolic acid helps to get rid of old skin cells to reveal smoother and brighter skin. I love this toner and have been using it night and day – it stings very slightly but that’s a good thing because I know it’s working. And it’s not alcohol that’s making the sting – it’s the very useful glycolic acid doing its work! My skin feels brighter and smoother after using this for two weeks.
Pixi H2o Skintint
Another great product by Pixi is the H2O Skintint which is a Tinted Face Gel. I love this for the weekend when I want to tone down on the make-up and am looking for just light coverage. It’s great for letting the skin breathe which is what we all need in January. You will find it feels light and airy and makes it look like you are wearing nothing at all on your face – perfect for a Sunday.
Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer
I am also loving the Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer. This little primer is slightly tinted and helps to keep skin mattified. I have really oily skin so this is great for keeping things under control!
O.D.A. (Optimum Derma Aciditate)
I picked up this little treat for the eyes at the Sanrizz Beauty Aesthetic Clinic in Knightsbridge. The salon there offers a range of treatments from massage and facials, to makeovers to eyelash extensions to haircare.
They also sell a range of skincare products by O.D.A. – a professional cosmetic line from Lithuania which is acid-based yet organic. And remember we love acid-based products because of their skin-smoothing and exfoliating properties. This anti-wrinkle eye cream which I picked up is a remedy particular for dark circles and puffiness under the eyes so would make a great treatment after too many late nights out!
Lord & Berry
I had never tried Lord & Berry before until I picked them up at the Sanrizz Beauty Aesthetic Clinic recently. It is a professional line of make-up from Italy that was only previously available for make-up artists to use on models. Therefore it is rather hard to find their products but I’ve got the eye pencil in #221 and the lip pencil in 20100.
The lip pencil is a frosty pink that is nice to layer over another lipstick for a shimmery kick.
Silk’n Diamond Peeling Microdermabrasion
I love this little device. I have been using it for a few weeks now and after using it my skin feels smoother and also plumper due to the fact it feels like a little massage. This is an at-home microdermabrasion device that I have covered in a previous post but wanted to include it again as I think it’s fab. I’ve been using it every other day or every two days, after cleansing on a clean, dry face. I go over the key spots on my face for about 5-10 minutes. This is great to do while browsing Instagram!
I was able to attend the Silk’n bloggers launch party in London recently, where they announced the launch of their latest device – Silhouette. This is an at-home device to be used for skin tightening and cellulite reduction.
Amy Childs attended and was also announced as the face for Silk’n. It was great to learn about all the products that Silk’n has – from facial cleansing devices to IPL to home microdermabrasion, there is something for everyone!
My star pick from Silk’n? The Revit Microdermabrasion kit. It’s a handheld device that comes with three attachments: course, fine and precision that allows for targeted microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is an intensive exfoliation that aims to reduce fine lines, age spots and acne scars on the face.
I have had a three course treatment of microdermabrasion in the past so was anxious to see how the Revit system compared to the professional treatment I had received previously.
The great thing about Revit is that you can use it at home so you can let your skin calm down if there is any redness or sensitivity. Diamond peel exfoliation removes the outer layer of skin, which promotes the growth of new healthy cells.
The product is really easy to use – just clean your face and go for it! It only takes 5-10 minutes and you can use it every 3-4 days. I would recommend starting with your cheeks and then working your way to the nose, corners of the eyes and forehead. As the outer layer of skin will be exfoliated away – it’s best to follow the treatment with a really good serum or moisturiser so it can really penetrate deeply into the skin.
Revit also allows you to use various strength levels depending on how intense an exfoliation you need. Low level is best for sensitive skin types.
After using Revit at home I didn’t feel any sensitivity but this depends on your skin type. I thought my skin looked fresh, smooth and almost shiny with a kind of ‘scrubbed look’. My make-up went on more smoothly than usual and I always say that in order for make-up to look good you must have a good canvas! I will be using this in the coming weeks for sure!

It was the night before Christmas and all through the night…I couldn’t stop thinking of of my top ten delights! December is here and with it I want to share my top 10 delights.
1. John Rocha linen scarf – this is a gorgeous creamy linen with peach-toned floral motifs. It’s soft and cuddly – pair it with a white sweater and snuggle up. Available at Debenhams.
2. The Real Shaving Co. – this is a great brand for guys with simple unassuming packaging and get straight to the point products. And the products will keep your man smooth with their 3-step process. Fantastic for guys who like to groom but don’t want to think about it too much.
The Daily Face Scrub is the first step in the process. It contains lemongrass so is very refreshing, smells great and buffs and smooths dead skin cells away.
Step two is the Shave Gel – this an invisible gel so guys can see where they are shaving – brilliant! It also helps to prevent skin irritation.
Step three is the final step in the process with the Daily Post-Shave Soothing Balm. This will help prevent any irritation from the shave and is very soothing with aloe vera.
3. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream for the body – I am loving this luxurious body cream which is very hydrating and rich for dry skin that comes in the winter months. It is heavenly and smells amazing too.
4. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturizing Hand Treatment
I always need a hand cream in my hand bag for every season but especially for the winter. This one is soothing without being too greasy.
5. Gold Limited Edition James Bond 007 EDT– dare I say that this fragrance smells exciting and mysterious? It really does! Perhaps because of the association with the James Bond movies those two words instantly popped into my head when I first smelled this cracker of a fragrance. The bottle is also gorgeous – it reminds me of a really fancy whiskey flask but is inspired by the iconic 007 gunbarrel.
I also found this fragrance to smell really fresh and energising – this would be great for everyday use and the limited edition gold bottle makes an extra special Christmas gift for him. The fragrance has top notes of apple, bergamot and geranium, heart notes of lavender, cardamom and rose thorn and base notes of vetiver, patchouli and sandalwood. I really notice the lavender and bergamot coming out in this fragrance and that is what adds the refreshing kick to this!
6. Dear Santa I Want It All sweater – I picked this up at H&M for £14.99 and if you want a glamourous kick to the typical Christmas sweater, this is the one for you.
7. Accessories – Leather Gloves from H&M and Feather Bobble Hat from River Island – one always needs accessories in the winter and it’s nice to have some that add sophistication and a touch of cool to your outfit as well as warmth. I have had so many compliments on my bobble hat from River Island – I saw the same one at London Fashion Week at 10x the price!
8. New Look Fuschia Lipstick – did you know that New Look does make-up now? I am loving this Fuschia lippy – it adds a bright pop of colour on the dullest of days.
9. Melvita Extraordinary Water – I absolutely love this Extraordinary Rose Water – it’s a gel-like toner that is to be used after cleansing and before moisturising. I love this consistency because it’s easier to pat into the skin and also easy to apply. Studies have shown that after four weeks, women noticed their skin was smoother and plumper!
These serum-like gels are packed with plumping hyaluronic acid and smells of a bouquet of roses…lovely.
10. Tripp Suitcase – I am in love with my Tripp suitcase – it’s bright and yellow and stands out from all the usual black and brown suitcases. You will definitely spot this on the revolving carousel at the airport and as I say, it’s always important to travel in style. Available at Debenhams.
Rodial is a luxury skincare, make-up and bodycare brand based in London and started by Maria Hatzistefanis. It was founded in 1999 and designed to be used as an alternative to plastic surgery as well as falling in the gap between scientific and more natural-based skincare.
Rodial has recently launched a contouring range within their collection, the first make-up range to be launched especially for contouring and definition and of which Daisy Lowe is the face of.
I was invited to get a ‘Paparrazzi Day Sculpt’ to trial Rodial’s new contouring line. As a bonus I was also able to interview the glamourous owner of the brand – Maria Hatzistefanis – to find out more about the range.
Beauty Rocks: What inspired you to launch a make-up range within the Rodial brand?
MH: Launching make-up with Rodial seemed like the next natural progression for us. We are all about sculpting and firming the skin. A sculpting make-up range means we could complete the beauty stages for our customers. We were inspired from our own products and the massive increase in the need to sculpt and contour the face.
Beauty Rocks: How did you get into the beauty industry?
MH: I have always had a huge passion for the Beauty & Fashion industry from a very young age! I have worked in number of different jobs roles, including a beauty editor for Seventeen magazine. My heart has always been in the beauty world. I noticed a niche in the market, there was no skincare brand that offered alternatives to plastic surgery. I wanted to a make a luxury brand that provides consumers with products that contain active ingredients, that are used in plastic surgery, without all the needles and complications.
Beauty Rocks: What are your top three products from the Rodial make-up collection?
MH: It’s tough as I love the whole range! My favourite products would have to be the Contouring powder as it’s so easy to use and you really can achieve the perfect sculpted look in 3 minutes. I also love the Eye Sculpt it’s a great universal shade, that suits all eye colours! It works to sculpt the eye area and can be used on brows for extra definition. The Instaglam Highlight Pen again its super easy to use, and you can apply to all areas of the face you want to highlight, it’s a yellow universal colour and for me completes the sculpted Rodial look.
(Thanks Maria!) I was also able to have the magic of Rodial contouring demonstrated on me with a 15 minute sculpting lesson using the below tools.
INSTAGLAM COMPACT DELUXE CONTOURING POWDER – this powder is a nice honey colour so still looks natural and not too dark like some contouring/bronzing powders that end up just making your face look dirty. This should be applied on the hollows of your cheeks and swiped into the hairline. The best way to do it is to make a fish face and suck in the cheeks so you can easily find those hollows!
THE SCULPTING BRUSH – this brush’s shape makes it perfect for contouring and keeping a straight line to be swept right up into the hairline.
INSTAGLAM COMPACT DELUXE TRANSLUCENT HD POWDER – this powder is lovely and is a setting powder that mattifies skin without taking away its glow. This was my star product pick as I loved the compact it came in and the product inside of it. This will be my new handbag hero for sure!
The finished product! With a touch of Glamstick in ‘Revenge’ I was good to go!
Have you heard of Italian beauty brand L’Erbolario?
It’s very popular in Italy and it has now reached our shores. Think of it as the Italian version of Crabtree & Evelyn in the fact that there is a big focus on florals and single note fragrances. There is a huge range of products in a wide array of fragrances at the L’Erbolario branch in Islington – over 400 products across fragrance, bath and body, mother and baby and home!
The company was started in Italy by a husband and wife team who originally used family recipes – which they improved over time. The packaging is gorgeous, with floral illustrations that have a touch of the nostalgic. The prices are also reasonable for the quality.
I have been able to test out a few of the products myself across face, body and even hair.
First up we will start with hair. I used the Effetto Reale Shampoo and Conditioner with Royal Jelly. Royal Jelly has a high amount of nutrients, good enough to serve a queen – a queen bee that is. This set is geared towards reviving exhausted tresses that have been through climate or environmental changes and stresses. I used this without any other add-ins like hair oils, etc. so I could really feel how the products affected my hair. I was pleasantly pleased – it doesn’t weigh the hair down but also doesn’t dry it out so I didn’t feel like it had stripped my hair of any moisture. I liked the fragrance of the shampoo and I think it was because of the Chestnut Extract!
I also had several packettes to try and as you can see in the picture below, the illustrations on the packaging is really beautiful. The packettes are Accordo Arancio Shower Gel, Camelia Eau de Parfum, Camelia Body Cream, Brightening Face Cream and Brightening Face Serum. L’Erbolario also has a skincare range and make-up range so they pretty much cover it all!
All raw materials used by L’Erbolario are freshly pressed vegetable oils, flower waters and herbs. All products combine the best of traditional herbalist methods with the most advanced cosmetics research.
My star product pick was the Peonie Bubble Bath (can also be used as a shower gel). I found this to be light and refreshing with a delicate floral scent. I don’t like products that are too heavily scented so was pleased by this one. I would be happy to wake up with this in the morning!
L’Erbolario also does beautiful soaps that are packaged to perfection. These would make great gifts for anyone or for a treat for yourself as well. The soaps are very nostalgic and old-fashioned in a good way!
What’s on my wish list? These Violet Drawer Sachets. I would love to put these in my drawers to freshen up my clothes and I am a huge fan of Violet. I think it’s one of the loveliest flowers out there and we don’t see it enough in fragrances.
I am here to bring you good tidings and cheer! Good news – if you don’t know this cult product from France – well it doesn’t matter because it has now launched in the UK so you can try it yourself! Long have bloggers been going to France and picking up this La Roche-Posay classic.
Serozinc contains Zinc Sulphate and is great for oily skin and the blemish-prone. It’s a spray on toner (yay!) that allows you to spray and go in a matter of seconds before moving on to your serum. It’s great for mattifying the skin as well if you suffer from noon o’clock shine like I do.
Serozinc launches in the UK on January 1st 2015 and it’s exclusive to Escentual. You can get on the waiting list for it however and it’s only £8.50 http://www.escentual.com/larocheposay123/
I first tried La Roche-Posay when I bought their Thermal Spring Water spritz which I used everyday to freshen up my make-up and wake up my skin.
I’m a big fan of the brand so was excited to also try the Effaclar Duo as I am prone to getting acne marks on my skin. La Roche-Posay keeps things simple and that’s why I like them. The products don’t contain any extra fragrances or what I like to call ‘nonsense’ ingredients. I have found the Effaclar Duo to be fab at controlling my shiny oily skin and it’s great to use in combination with the Serozinc.
In fact if you want a three-step routine, try the La Roche-Posay Physiological Cleansing Gel, followed by Serozinc and then the Efflacar Duo. And if you are going skiing this winter, I would highly recommend the Toleriane Ultra which is great for soothing irritated skin (think wind chapped!) as well as the SPF 50+ Fluid.
Have you tried La Roche-Posay? What did you think?
December is here and with it Christmas. Glossybox has come out with a very Christmassy box this month – very festive indeed! As each Glossybox costs £10.00 this makes a perfect little gift, whether as an amazing stocking filler or for a Secret Santa gift.
So what’s inside this month’s Glossybox? Let’s open it and find out.
SkinPep Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum – as we get older, levels of hyaluronic acid decline in our skin. HA is able to hold 200 times its weight in water so this is a great moisture booster, especially if you are travelling by plane for the holidays.
So Susan Concealer Quad – this concealer quad comes in four different colours so it can be used on a variety of skin types. We also know that sometimes spots and marks on the face come in different colours so it’s nice to have a variety of shades to choose from for various coverage needs. And as it is tiny it makes a perfect travel companion.
Anatomicals Day and Night Spot Stick – My favourite pick in this month’s box? The Anatomicals Day and Night Spot Stick. I applied it to a developing spot and it did help to stop the spot from getting any bigger overnight.
Tresemme 60 Second Treatment Shots – I like to take these on trips and since I am travelling for the holidays I will be taking these in place of a full bottle of conditioner.
Bellapierre Cheek & Lip Stain – I love a multi-tasking product and this is another one that can be used on both cheeks and lips so I would label this as a handbag hero!
I love No7 for both skincare and for make-up and was recently given a challenge to create three holiday looks using No7 products. Here’s what I came up with!
Sensational Party Sparkle
What I used:
No7 Radiant Spheres Highlighter – this is a gorgeous highlighter that will add a lovely sparkle and sheen to your face to give you a glow to fake dewy skin!
No7 High Shine Moisturising Gloss in Plum Blush – this has SPF15 in it so you get the added sun-protection for your lips – this would be great to take on a skiing holiday for glamour on the slopes.
No7 Shade and Define in Precious – this is a gorgeous, creamy gold shadow that is simple to apply and go – great to keep in your handbag for touch-ups on the run!
No7 Midnight Lash – a lovely mascara to plump up and volumise your lashes.
No7 Stay Precise Liquid Liner in Brown/Black – this is my star product pick from No7. The thin brush application makes a very straight line for a liquid eyeliner and I was happy to say that this doesn’t budge either so it’s great for all day and all night!
What I used:
No7 Lash Impact Mascara – for full luscious lashes apply two coats!
No7 Natural Blush Cream in Maple Silk – this is another star product pick from No7. I found this blush cream turned into a lovely flushed colour once applied to cheeks. It also went on smoothly and melted into skin. If you are a fan of blush creams like myself do try this one!
No7 High Shine Lip Crayon in Statement – I love a red lip for day or night. It’s classic and never goes out of style.
No7 Precise Liner in Brown/Black – as used in the first look
What I used:
No7 Stay Perfect Shade and Define in Gunmetal Grey – this is a gorgeous shimmery grey-blue. I absolutely love shimmery eyeshadow and this one is perfect for the holidays because it isn’t your typical neutral.
No7 Stay Perfect Foundation in Honey – this foundation has an SPF15 in it so it’s great to wear to protect your skin from the sun. And even on cloudy days there are still harmful UV rays so SPF is still needed.
No7 Natural Blush in Coral Flush – this is a lovely pink, just been pinched on the cheeks colour that will liven up any dull complexion.
No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter – this stick highlighter makes it easy to add an extra glow exactly where you need it!
No7 Concealer in Honey – another great product for touch-ups on the go!
No7 ‘In the Navy’ Stay Perfect Trio Eyeshadow Palette – easy to use for creating a smoky eye look. I love the shimmery beige in the centre.
No7 Precision Lip Liner in Nude – great for keeping your lips defined and looking natural.
No7 Lipstick in Romantic – despite this looking like a deep colour it is really more like a lip stain for a barely there gloss!
